Greg, I'm curious, did you try the HTS-1000 in stages? What I mean is, did you try just plugging your sources in and listen, then add the preamp and listen, then the power amp?The reason I ask is that I and most people, like me, don't like the power amp through the conditioner. Plugging in my preamp and MC amp was a mixed bag, but in the end I preferred them filtered. My CD player and TT were clearly better through the Monster, and that's what made me wonder if you'd tried different combinations.

Yes I did. I never tried the power amps through the 1000 because it wouldn't work and is not recommended. My preamp (passive attenuator) is passive so doesn't have a plug. My SSP is directly to the wall, so the only things I was running through it were my HDTV and my DVD. Using the DVD as a CDP, the sound didn't seem to change at all when using the filter. Using the VansEvers, there was a clear improvement. There are two transient switches on the VansEvers unit to taylor the sound further, and it's amazing how well they work.I've found this stuff to be very system sensitive so my advice is to try different combinations and use whatever works best. But there's little question the VansEvers equipment is much better than the Monster stuff, though, at a higher price.
