and I've been very pleased with it. (CT-34WX50) I didn't consider the Leowe much or Sony much (this was 6 months ago) but did look at the Toshiba 34" 16:9. Others can probably debate the technical issues better then I, but there were a couple of other reasons I got it. One was the nice matching stand with wheels, and the other was that it was sleeker and looked nicer than the Toshiba imho. By the time I had the TV and the stand I was out about $3.3k, I think. People that come over are always impressed with it. Good luck, Eric H
I have seen, side-by-side, the Sony KV36XBR400, the Panasonic Tau CT-34WX50, and Loewe Aconda and I would rate them, as far as picture quality, Aconda first, Panasonic Second, and Sony last. Neither the Sony nor Panasonic have a built-in line-doubler like the Aconda and therefore the Aconda gives a smoother more life-like looking image. In other words, watching a DVD on either the Sony or Panasonic is like watching video whereas with the Aconda it is like you are present at the time the film is being shot. The Aconda also includes a motion detection circuitry. Gone In 60 Seconds is a good example to show off how well motion is handled with on the Aconda. The Panasonic has the advantage over the Aconda in terms of the size of the 16:9 and 4:3 video image. The Sony has the adavtage over both the Aconda and Panasonic for 4:3 video image but the other two more then make up for that when in 16:9 mode.
One thing I really like about the Aconda is the panorama mode which works great for viewing NTSC 4:3 broadcasts. It does cut a slight bit off the top and bottom but it is not that noticeable. I find that the cinema mode, on the Aconda, is great for watching LD movies.
Those are the exact same models I am considering. Irritating that all the showrooms have lousy video sources and haven't been able to get a direct side by side comparison with HDTV or DVD
Before you buy, check out the Philips 34PW9815, also a direct veiw HDTV with a line doubler. Sold at most Circuit City stores, if they are available in you area. I checked out all the others and decided th Philips was the best.
The Sony and Panasonic models you are looking at have been reviewed in The Perfect Vision in the last 6 months. I bought the Panasonic CT-32HX40 (4:3) HDTV and I am extremely please with the picture quality in NSTC broadcast, Cable, DVD for the $1325 price from J&R. The built in line doubler works really improves the source same as in more expensive models. I didn't buy the more expensive models because you were just paying too much the 16:9 aspect ratio while losing on the vertical height for regular broadcast. I moved my Sony 32" Wega in back room without regrets. BTW: Panasonic has new model CT32HX41 with a few more nice feature at same price.
I recently purchased the CT32HX40 and now hear rumors of the 41. What new features will be included in the 41?Thanks for your info,
Tom Garcia
