I would venture to say no, it would not make a $100 difference in picture quality. I base that on both the length of the cable and the screen size of the tv.

I have a 32" Panasonic (nothing fancy, 32AD020) with both S-video and component inputs. I was able to A-B the two against each other and noticed a subtle but significant difference in component over S -- more saturated colors, darker blacks, just a more realistic looking picture overall. But that was with a 2-meter run. Yours is more like 6-1/2 meters. The other factor is that S-video is a smaller wire, unlike component's more snakelike appearance. Hope this helps . . .
