a journey which he knows is dangerous but which promises to make him a lot of illicit money.
Very quickly, he finds himself in a kill-or-be-killed, deliberate situation for which he never bargained.
This film has a very simple premise but it compels you to watch it unfold, nevertheless.
It stars a young Georgian actor and is directed by his brother; it is their debut.
The principal should have a long career in film: he is charismatic, projecting both strength and great vulnerability. I cannot think of a young American actor that so convincingly could have played this complex character. If he spoke English, this film would be remembered for launching a superstar.
Follow Ups:
I liked this film.Don't know why but your post reminded me of "The Aura" by the Argentine director, Fabian Bielinsky. His earlier "Nine Queens" was more widely distributed, maybe better known but I like this one better.
Quite different motivational circumstances but again a man assumes another's identity/place and finds himself involved in a very smart and deadly tale of survival.A richly conceived and executed character study with plenty twists, ala "The Passenger" or "The Conversation".
Highly recommended.
I have it in my queue and look forward to it

new one a whirl.
Thanks.
..since I saw "Nine Queens" but I remember it being a bit contrived. Tiring if not tiresome. Still, I enjoyed it.
in Nine Queens but it was fun and interesting overall. Mamaet without the 'patented' Mametspeak!
thanks

or the movie at all. We can''t "spoil" but it just took too long to develop. There is something about the Russian mind that operates in slow motion that necessitates a thousand pages to tell a story or three hours to produce a forty-five minute film.
mistake in either country.
I thought the film spent as little time as necessary to build to the shocking premise. Without those introductory scenes of the young guy's dreary job, his incapacitated brother, and their poverty, the rest wouldn't have made much sense. When one comes from a country with a long history of civil war, random murder, and regular carnage, the film's drama is much more understandable.
And... it just may be an allegory of Georgian life, too.
I thought the young guy was s u p e r b.
