...with all of the chases, fights and explosions.
Marginally entertaining popcorn movie.
Follow Ups:
The spirit of Doyle has been preserved.
That is much important.
brilliant rumination about this. Oh, yes, there is a soupcon but it is all subsumed to the ACTION genre. This is an ACTION film. Fights. Chases. Explosions.
Dialogue and character development? Negligible.
Actually, my first thought when viewing was that the leads should have been reversed. Law is a far more interesting, nuanced actor. And... he's British. I'm sick of hearing these awful attempts by American actors to mimic the British. God awful. They get the sound right but tempi is all wrong. It jangles.
But it stand on its own. And it is in the spirit of the creator.
That show the intelligence of the script.
And it was not boring. For an action film of today a compliment.
Just think of 2012. Now that was boring. At least this one was lush and had taken an earnest point for the set, very well made and authentic.
But I knew that you did not like it. And donīt get me wrong, it will never fill my videotheque.
One cannot forget this is Robert Downey, a clownish actor.
If one were unacquainted with Basil Rathmore, this film might be mildly amusing. Really, Patrick, did you find the fight with the giant in that warehouse the least bit amusing? Those fight scenes were fantastic, yes, but in the wrong movie.
Holmes was an intellectual: that is his soul. Downey? Hardly Eton material.....
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
Downey is a good actor even his best was and will remain his Chaplin.
Basil was ok but the series, shit.
Now I donīt pretend this film is good. I just pretend that it is a good trasposition of a MODERN Sherlock.
One that fit in our time. And one with excellent decors. Like it was back then.

so they're still dear to my heart.
Imagine Jeremy Irons.
Paul Rickman!
Now, Downey.....
See?
Childish.

Now the US Basil series is so bad, I canīt not tell how.
It has less to do with Doyle hero that Richtieīs film.
Now it you tell me, and you did, it is a part of your childwood then I keep quite.
But the best SH I ever saw is:

That's what I thought and was disappointed. My wife enjoyed it.
