Last night the wife and I suddenly found ourselves with nothing to do and took off. About the only movie showing that had any of our interest was "The other guys." Was I surprised! Many laugh out loud moments, and that included the whole theater. People applauded at the end. Lots of good, snappy dialogue. Funny insults flying all over the place.
What amazed me was how the two main characters had complete story arcs. After a prologue, it displayed their problems, then by the end of the movie it showed how they grew and overcame their initial internal problems.
The end was marred by a dump about the end of the housing boom where so many executive made tons of money and how large the tarp debt was etc. It was done in cartoon over the closing credits. Might have been Okay, but THE STINKING PRODUCERS AND ACTORS MAKE FAR MORE THAN THE CEO'S EVER DID. Okay, rant over.

Exact opposite experience. Not once did the audience laugh and some folks left.
I just don't find Will Ferrell funny.

I never really thought about it but Mark Wahlberg is a terrible actor. He is just not very appealing in anything he does.
It started off pretty good and then there were some slow parts in the middle of the movie but it ended with some good slapstick.
Overall I was disappointed, C+ seems about right to me too.
Phil
...was much better than some other recent Will Ferrel films.
But that's pretty faint praise.
I laughed quite a few times.
I'd give it a C+.
Went to this as 2nd choice, Toy Story 3D no longer playing at the advertised time. It had some laughs and was enjoyable at times. A lot of the things that were supposed to be funny fell pretty flat (example: the mother going back and forth with sex talk). I was not a big Will Ferrell fan going into this and still am not.
WTF was that all about? The movie wasn't PC in the least. Then they go Ninja PC in the credits. Stoopit.
But the movie was a riot. Ferrell's life had some surprising twists as did the movie, not the least, the bit about the police rock stars. Our local rag had a great headline above its review (a B+ btw), "When Dumb is Smart". A very apt description IMHO.
