Jean Dujardin reprises his role as France's answer to the idiot's James Bond. In his first mission he was sent to Cairo to clean up a nest of spies while showing complete and total naive insensitivity to Arabs and Muslims.
This time it is 1967 and Dujardin is sent to Rio to buy some information on Nazi collaborators. The last film was used humorously chewing up Arabs but this time it's Israelis and the Mossad. 117 has not grown one iota since the time frame of the last film (1956) and his politcal and social naivety deserves the death penalty.
These films are over-the-top satires and this particular one really uses the full bag of 60's film making with multiple screens, punched up color, lots of swimsuit cuties, and Dujardin's merciless James Bond looks and attire.
In the bonus feature one of the writer/director's commented that in France it is allowable in film to use lots of humor about Arabs, Jews, and black people. Since it was Arabs last time they decided it would be Jews this time.
If you liked the goofy college kid movies of the 60's and 70's you will feel perfectly at home with "Cairo" or "Rio". Very laughable.

I started watching this marvel, turned it off after about five minutes.
But then I have not watched a single Bond movie in my life from beginning to end. Just a few minutes here and there have always been more than enough.

it's not all seriousness and Russian winter. I find this homage to period film making absolutely delightful. The attention to detail was great. Didn't the Israeli's pick up Dujardin in a Zil? Did you notice 117 actually shot one of the dancing girls in the back in the opening sequence? How 117 is always checking his cuff links when he has a tux on? There was so much idiocy what's not to like?
What's the last comedy you laughed at and enjoyed?

Please don't afflict us with your politics. There are more appropriate venues. To those who must continually espose their political rhetoric I must say votre haute opinion de vous n'est pas partagée par d'autres!

Employing a metaphor by using an insightful political reference can really cut to the bone... Good one!

a complete waste.
One bonus: a childhood home of a friend was featured, brought back all sorts of great memories.
I thought the Jewish jokes got a little.... excessive. And the lead was a Chevy Chase impersonator....
I found the fist AP movie amusingly clever but the sequels totally redundant and rather pointless. LOST IN RIO must be total bottom-of-the-barrel stuff for it to be inferior to Austin Powers.
As for the Jewish jokes, yes, they did go a bit overboard but I felt than none of them were actually hurtful -- just every cliche you have ever heard.
In the bonus material the director mentioned the "Cairo" film and was asked by people "aren't you afraid" after all the Arab jokes they put in the film. He said he really wasn't. Maybe the French and French Arabs have a greater tolerance of humor and satire?
