Just saw this last night. What a great vampire movie. Very brooding, and dark but awkwardly compelling. The bite scenes are horrific. But the movie is not about that. It’s about the down and out and about saviors and the unjust. I’m still thinking about it today. Check it out.

Overall the US film is very close to the Swedish one in plot, dialogue, and even in scenery in many places, but there are some differences including the virtual elimination of the boy's father and the elimination of the group of friends who know the victim killed by Eli/Abby under the bridge.
"Let Me In" isn't bad. I rented it yesterday and watched it last night. It's a good film but I think "Let The Right One In" is a great film. If you know and like the Swedish film I suspect you won't be impressed by the American remake.
I bought a copy of "Let The Right One In". I won't be buying a copy of "Let Me In". I doubt I'll rent it a second time unless my rental store gets the BD copy in so I can see how much better it looks/sounds in hi-def than on DVD. I found dialogue muffled in some places on the the DVD and had to resort to subtitles to work out what was being said.

Funny, I saw it last night as well. Very good movie. I'd say if you haven't seen the original, see this. If you've seen the original and loved it (like I did) see both.

I have not seen the remake, perhaps tin is right, the original has nice atmosphere about it which might be hard to replicate, it is decidedly non-American. So definitely a recommended viewing.

Terry researched this and found that the subtitles on the original were not reflective of the original’s language. In other words, she said that much was lost in the translation and was one of the reasons of the US remake. We have it in our queue and will report back. Suffice it to say, a great movie. Dark, dark, dark. Be in the mood.

The theatrical release had the good version. I think the DVD may have been issued a second time to go back to the original subtitles. I don't know for sure.
Though I'm not sure they are really all that different, or enough to warrant buying it again.

As I reflected on it, I realized the young boy was taking the place of the old man in the beginning and that would ultimately be his fate.
Knowing that now would spoil the remake's impact, even with better actors.
Yes, and I thought (afterward) that the vampire pre-selected the young boy and perhaps murdered the neighbor to free up the adjacent apartment in order to solidify the relationship.

For someone knowing the original language the subs always present a problem, I know from my own experience, and I understand - trying to compress idiomatic expressions into short meaningful sentences is no easy task. But often we don't have other choice.
