It's like the Resistance: it existed, but it hardly was a flea-bite on the leg of the Nazi Giant. The violence of retribution, slaughtering and torturing entire villages where any dissent was manifested, pretty much doomed a lot of organized resistance. And, outside of giving the French some needed pride back, what could it accomplish against such a mighty force? An occupied country, one that is taken over by truly ruthless lords, has no chance.

Read a bit about history, the USA and England wanted to minimise the role of the not so loved De Gaulle.

But they were literarily overrun by him. The resistance was only a part of it.
The French forces were on D day and they liberate Strasbourg among others places.

Turns out - quite a bit. Look into the history of the partisan movement in the occupied Poland, Belorussia and Ukraine. Their contribution was significant.

  impossible, for people to face the fact sometimes that they'd be powerless, but.... against the Nazis, one was. They weren't defeated by insurgents, after all. And if you want to be an accountant of death, they ALWAYS made sure the ledger favored them.
