This film is unclassifiable. It can be argued that it is the most beautiful of films, and also one of the ugliest. The light show scenes rival "2001" without copying them. The radical shifting of narrative angle, outside the main character and then into his "spirit" is amazing. This is as close to tripping as one can get w/out smoking DMT (called the businessman's high in the 60s because this psychedelic took users up and then back down in a couple of hours).
NO film lover will ignore Mr. Noe: his is a unique voice and as unsettling as was Pasolini's, in his day.
SPOILER
An American who casually deals drugs in Tokyo is visited by his sister with whom he shared a catastrophic event from which both are still traumatized. Another such occurrence explodes their world.
Follow Ups:
I do enjoy a good "strange" film, but something like "Immortel(Ad Vitam)" is more interesting to me personally in that genre..
tripping days of yore.

How does this compare? I found Irreversable unwatchable. It was too much.

Enter the Void compares to it.
I found Irreversible unwatchable.
(I doubt anyone 'likes' his movies, appreciate might be a better word)

Fell in love with the lead actor, man, what a presence! But can't quite share all your enthusiasm about the films as the whole, I was a bit disappointed in a predictable and simplistic ending, all the tension and mood up to that point deserved a better resolution, I thought. Perhaps the director was running out of time and money. Still, on the whole, a very good film.Arlen Specter and his Magic Bullet theory live and well in Argentina!
And here little something obligatory for mr. grits

Like his "Irreversible" it's kinda hard on one level to "like" his films, and "Enter the Void" is his most polarizing effort so far; you'll either love it, or hate it. I thought it was bold + visually striking + still trying to figure out how he achieved some of those long tracking shots ( CG? Set models? )
But other film-mad friends just hated it ( go figure )
