Finally saw this film... What a magnificent mess it is.
A beautiful example of non-linear storytelling, it veers from the mundane to the supernatural in editorial cuts that have to be seen to be believed.
Joy, horror, laughter, banality, sorrow, hope... All are presented in full measure.
A wonderful cast gets the job done. Tucci deserves whatever he got... His portrayal here is nothing short of brilliant. A blank wall that conceals everything and nothing. Saoirse Ronan's performance as Susie in the lead role is both sophisticated and naive, but filled with light and wonder.
Wahlberg and Weisz are good enough, and Sarandon is perfect.

Follow Ups:
I enjoyed the film. I still think the scene where she runs away from her death past the other girl is a chilling way to transition to being a ghost.
I got misty, sad, all the emotions. Sor-shuh and Tucci were really great and Wahlberg's anguished outbursts moving.
This was a calculated tear jerker that worked for me. Nice thing, there were no actual implications of sexual misconduct so the film was safe for young and pre-teens. As adults we knew what was happening.
