Now if you want to see a film with all the possible intentions to please and to be politically correct and feel like a royalist underdog go for it.
This film is definitively a whore.
Passing by and picking up some missing like that Churchill made all his possible to try to not let the king abdicate because of Wallis.
Good it was not so important, but...
The best actor was for me, no doubt, Geoffrey Rush! Bien sure was Collin Firth good and he is one of the few I always like to see.
As for Helena Bonham Carter, she is playing herself again and again in her attitude and this time she missed it.
Micheal Gambon excellent as usual..
Now it was also a pleasant film, and costumes and all the settings where a joy to look at. If only this film would had not be made to please the mass of " concierges " out there it would had be in another league. But since Diana´s death the Royalties to cope with their own survival must play the low class without being classy..Helas.
Going down YES but with brio...A miss opportunity...

I saw it last night. I'm one of the common people. I like it and agree Rush was the one to watch and Firth was very good.

THE common was of course meant not as social class but as a spiritual " marker "-
In another world to please the people. those one who need to be flattered.
IF you like to be manipulated then you are in that category...
PS: I love the English System.
Who do you know who "likes" to be manipulated? I enjoyed the film and, especially, Rush's performance.

It was..Ironic - Of course-
I did enjoy it too. But was deceived at the lows.
same plot line.
Normally movies like this just come to an end and what's the point. But here, the king actually had something to say, and every word made the entire affair that came before worth every minute you sat through it. Great movie. I agree Rush was the one to watch.

You mean the contend of the last speech?
The one who is historically true?
It put the story we saw and the duke's fight for his voice in the context of the war that had broken out.

lower themselves to being average, chopping wood and riding mountain bikes. A good tv program, however, it was. Helena just doesn't have the royal bearing, does she? NO actresses seem to anymore. It's all lowering down so the average person can easily see themselves in the character. What a difference! When people weren't so lacking in confidence and could actually see something to strive for, i.e. education, bearing, manners--- in short, class.
Of course, I guess she is from an earlier generation, so perhaps wouldn't be included in your statement.
Yes.
PS: Actually Helena has some Aristocrat blood in her vein if I remember well, from a classic old family with Jewish blood...So the perfect match...for classy and she was remember her in A room with view?
She was the would be fuck of the year.
that high. Mirren, otoh, has the look.
Exactly. Mirren can do the trick, she can´t.
