"I'm going to take a tissue sample", says Thomsen. "Are you sure that's the right thing to do?", replies Winstead.
You are looking at 10 foot tall cockroach with gigantic crab claws sealed in a melting block of ice. So what do you do, "What's the largest size drill you have", asks Thomsen? That's all it took.
Because of the title I think it's hard to overcome the idea that this is not a remake. It has the same type scientific facility, the same creature, the same effects, same action, but filmed with a cool, icy tone instead of the warm Technicolor of the original. Indeed it is the same story that happened just days before Kurt Russel got involved.
If you are a sci-fi lover you will find this a decent film and enjoy it. If you like great film for the ages this is not it....but you should already know that if you have a room temperature IQ.
Follow Ups:
The Original (Black and white), or the Original Remake?( In Color). Or the Original Prequel?
Oh Wait, This IS the Original Prequel. It's hard to keep up...
sorry if I sounded confusing. You see, the plot is basically the same: same body-hopping critter gets loose and causes mayhem.

amazing since I have seen John Carpenter's The Thing several times.
Yes! That is called the Houdini Illusion!
While the first is a "B " movie, but on the top list of the " B " Movies the other is not worth the epitaph.
But as it seems you won´t share my point of view.
Indeed I don't. In my book it is a horror/scifi masterpiece. But we agree on the other one being a top flight 50s B movie.
