Kelsey Grammar, who I've never seen in a damn thing (he had a sitcom right?) plays the mayor of modern day Chicago. If you like politics, in the least, this one's for you. Never knew the guy could act but epi 1 most likely assures him an Emmy nom for next year. Grammar owns this part.If politics is yer bag (and for Gritsy, there was a hot stairway sex scene in epi 1) don't miss this. If you did, and you have Starz, it'll be rerun a buncha times/day.

Many series don't reach this level of quality until mid season or season 2.
'Boss' strikes me as an examination of political life as viewed through the lens of The Seven Deadly Sins...which kept coming to mind as the episode played out.
Can't wait for the next installment.

Grammar was OK, I thought he tried too hard to be Orson Welles...

I didn't reflect on it for one second, his portrayal seemed honest and on point with my expectations (of an actor playing a modern day big city boss). I actually enjoyed this premiere better than the pilot for Boardwalk Empire. Truth be known, I think Grammar's portrayal of a boss is much more believable than Buscemi's and his sometimes wooden acting (not that I don't love B.E.).

(of which I decided not to watch the second season). Just not a genre I care for, sick of the gratuitous violence, unless done really well then anything is fair game.
Frankly I prefer Game of Thrones to Boardwalk Empire but neither is great and a step behind something like The Sopranos for sure.

With dragons and all. There's certainly enuf going on, without dragons, to carry it another season with the approach of a decades long night, the scheming of Prince Joffrey, the white walkers, etc..

SPOILERS!!!
They certainly did not hold back,
Sean Bean beheaded at the hands of Prince Joffrey? The death of Khal Drogo? (at the hands of a witch? or did he die?) and the queen wakes covered in dragons?
Peter Dinklage is great as well (I am glad he won the Emmy).
I look forward to next season.
