I found a good portion it to be unbelievable but can forgive that because the effects were very well done.
(older) fanboy alert! Sandra Bullock in shorts floating in space!
I have no desire to see it twice and it does not compare to 2001 A Space Odyssey like one reviewer said (not even close) but as an adventure it was fun.
Follow Ups:
You're right. '2001' was 2/3 of a fine space story and 1/3 of a mind-numbingly-boring light show and that was ultimately VERY disappointing.
'Gravity' is a story of human survival set in space that is populated by a couple almost-real people.
'2010' was a much-better story and movie than '2001'...
...all IMO, of course.

...I heard Jon Stewart say the special effects did not compare.
