doubt the Duke's acting chops, they must truly be biased against him: his performance is very faceted and complex.
Vera Miles plays the type of character you don't see much of anymore: beautiful, in a natural way, and strong w/out resorting to fisticuffs or swearing. Okay, I admit to being a relic...

A classic western. I also like Red River very much
which was 100% propaganda. I even saw it for the first time while in VN. What a hoot.

It is exactly what I think about that film, I will also add, that J. Wayne was so much in disgrace by the left, and particularly here in Europe, that even now when you speak his name, people stars at you and laugh about the poor US cowboy.
And yes he was a good man and a good actor.
And yes he was conservative.
Idiots.
was a leading supporter during it and years later, too?
Wayne was such a figure, here.
You need the words chewed?
OK. Every body is entitle to a wrong opinion.
Tell me you never had some...
And about the US fiasco in Vietnam?
John Wayne was a patriot and as such he supported his country, wright or wrong, He was no Stalin.
About 'Nam, Barbara Walters asked him about it some years afterward. He said it was a mistake.
It has its charm, but it is a wrecked film. Remember back then what a publicity it did get when it get out on the big screen.

Duke gave a heroic performance. This and "Quiet Man" are my favorites. And "Stagecoach." Just saw "Liberty Valence" recently, and think he was great in that one. Vera was terrific in both of them, too. She was real. I felt she gave sincere performances. Kind of felt that way about Kim Novak, too. Not to forget Jean Hagen. I would have liked to see them work with John Wayne.
