I used to watch Fellini, Tarkovski and Bergman, and now I am downloading Smerfs 2 into my Netflix queue! What have I done? The new TV came with million admustments, so there are billions of combinations.
I used to think audiophiles were anal... now I discover that the videophiles are even more so.

Smerfs are intense deprogramming.
Stay away from YouTube or you will subscribe to every known conspiracy theory like me.
You will lay awake arguing if we are being controlled by the Egyptian Illuminati or the Bavarvian Illuminati.
Like Carlon said "....who's to say rich and powerful men MAY have a plan? A kook, a conspiracy nut."
...until wife walked in and told me it was Fox News time!
Some truly beautiful frames there, for sure! (No... not on Fox)

We got the 70" Sony 4K TV delivered, and now playing with it.It does an incredibly good job with 4K - either from the streaming, or downloaded demos. The colors are fantastic, the picture is simply gorgeous.
But its user interface truly sucks, there is no provision for a keyboard, and the browser is below rudimentary. Its remote control is worthy of a $39 DVD player - cheaper than I have ever seen.
I am still learning its adjustments, but in the meantime we also ordered the 65" Samsung, to compare side-by-side.
I know the Samsung has a much better interface, but I suspect the Sony's larger size will make it the winner!
Ah... and the mandatory question about the black... well, it seem to be superb, but I have to admit, I spend very little time staring at them.

side viewing. I think those are the raps against that technology?
I haven't done much research, since I'm so happy w/the Kuro, but I believe those drawbacks have been addressed strongly by engineers on the latest iterations. Personal testimonials by guys you know and that have established cred always is better, though.
The viewing angle on that model is an issue, but since we only watch from one position, I think it is acceptable, considering that most people agree it offers probably the best image quality of the current bunch.
So far have not noticed any blurring in the stuff we watch, and don't expect that to change... but would not mind to watch some tennis, perhaps.
If I wanted a plasma, I could have bought the 65" Samsung, great plasma, by all accounts... BUT... it is not 4K, and once you see it, you have hard time going back to your lame 1080p... :-(
The best thing to do is find the settings of someone who just had that model calibrated. They are usually posted on AVS forum or Google it. Set it once and forget it, don't stress over it. Or, you can get it calibrated.
Can't help you with the Smurfs.

Thank you, I have already done that, and making my progress! The TV is spectacular, so waiting for more 4K material.
Who does the calibration, and how much it cost? Just in case...
Check AVS forum. There is also a bulletin board specifically for professional calibrators. A good one will run you about $300. I'm not sure I would trust one from Best Buy, but that's just me.
Jack
Good luck -
I have resisted so far -
so I only use what comes with the computer.....
Happy fiddling
