In Reply to: RE: Better than Bond? Harry Palmer. Anyone else here a fan of Michael Caine's portrayal? posted by tinear on September 28, 2014 at 13:19:08
They don't make 'em like that any more. Thank God. I've seen more complex plots in a Road Runner cartoon.
I liked Caine, and I'm sure his rakish portrayal of Harry Palmer was quite the anti-hero in 1965. The rest of the movie was horrible.
Follow Ups:
I haven't seen it since 1965. It sucked then. Perhaps it has gotten better with age or my tastes have changed in the intervening 49 years.

the MTV generation cannot grasp a movie where things don't happen every three minutes.

Poor plot. Poor pacing. Bad editing. Ridiculous ending.
"Shot him."
"No, shoot him."
Bang!
The inane Bond movies of the era were infinitely better. If you think this movie somehow portrayed espionage of the era as anything close to reality, then you're a complete idiot.
Ah, the abusive ad hominem. First choice of people who cannot win their argument with facts.
Go watch a Miley Cyrus video.

I downloaded it using BitTorrent (see the link below). I'm downloading Funeral in Berlin and Billion Dollar Brain right now.

consider it after panning the first?
I'd honestly be surprised if they were any worse. Different? Ok. Bad? Sure. Worse? Doubtful.
