There was some jing spent producing this B-movie spectacle. Great CGI, costume design, and even some of the acting. Problem is getting past all the "preconceived" Dracula/vampire hokum. This movies takes a dead serious approach to Dracula as a repentant "impaler" who decided that paying tribute to the Turks was better than war. Typically, the Turks asked for too much in the way of 1,000 boys to be trained as Turk infantry. In his frustration he returns to a foreboding cave in the mountains filled with bones to seek the power to destroy his enemy. He gets that power and boy-hidy does he ever do some destroying. (Try to guess who the cave vampire is before the credits.)
Since it is no longer scorching hot I can't proclaim this is a great way to beat the heat so it might be a fun cable or disk choice.

I can only think of movies where killing Dracula was the theme. This almost qualifies as a prequel of sorts. If it is a first, then criticisms should be tempered a bit. No need to go for the throat if there is nothing else to compete with. It's not as if it would pale in comparison.
....see it when out on disk.read several critics reviews. From those I gather that:
1) this is a re-boot of the genre.
2) as a reboot the first episode is always the source of the legend. In this case, evidently, Vlad The Impaler.
3) as with the other 21'st century reboots much license will be taken with what historical fact there is about 'Vlad'.
4) and the door will be wide open for future episodes to re-tell this re-imagined legend....all over again.I would have thought that the world had seen enough vampire movies by now. Evidently not.

Denzel's characterization. He was a heavily traumatized black ops guy. Showing little emotion is called the "flattened effect". His rituals and OCD is also a major symptom of serious trauma. I notice how he hung his lip twice during action and wondered if he was conveying Bell's Palsy which can cause droop of the mouth as well as a myriad of other facial symptoms.
I believe he was "into" his role so far that critics haven't recognized what he was doing.
people just lined up for him to kill though out the entire movie
The review in my local player tagged it as a story best left untold. I'd like to see it.

But other than that was the reviewer able to sink his teeth into it?
especially if you do it for a living. Let the critics write, produce, and direct their own Dracula.
I think this one might be critic-proof.
If you want to see it you want to see it.
