As the rule, the American comedies are of very low caliber, the humor often is either adolescent, or just plain dumb.
With very few notable exceptions. But you can kick me now... I am your devoted messenger! :)
Follow Ups:
American comedies are adolescent, juvenile, puerile, or whatever you prefer. But a film like Murray's "Groundhog Day" wasn't. Nor was the bittersweet, "Lost in Translation." Or the Jarmusch one, though I'm not a fan of that director.
Anyhow, like anything else in art, it's subjective. I like his persona, you don't. Big wheel keeps on turnin.'
Groundhog Day is not bad, I never said it was, but he is pretty plain in there, his acting uninspiring. The Lost in Translation is pure speculation - allegedly every man's last dream, which it isn't... it is akin to showing a cute child or a dog - you are guaranteed a passing grade. It is really Scarlett's movie, he is playing a supporting role, and he is OK, but not more that that.
BTW, if you recall the treadmill scene, this is what I am talking about - the worst kind of cheap and silly American comedy.
