Yep, he was a producer but it was close enough to be his baby. The dark and somber mood, plot, and characters. Batman and Super were seen as never before--filled with jealousy and contempt for each other. Super was getting so much credit he was beginning to get some worship. Batman couldn't stand that. Their issues with each other were exacerbated by Lex Luthor's boy (Eisenberg) who brought them to battle. Dishy Gal Gadot emerges as the new Wonder Woman who joins in the festivities. This is a stone cold drama with surprising revelations about relationships. The great thing about this one is how well it was thought through. One guy I know would ask: "How can Batman beat Superman?." My advice is buy a ticket but don't make side bets.
Yep, action and drama with emphasis on ACTION. Lots of it in the 2.5 hours of run time. It will be well worth your time and it will seemingly fly by. This is a premo entertainment for kids and adult kids as well.
PS. World's longest credits with NO Easter Eggs.

Saw it today. Didn't think it would ever end. Wish every character died.:-(

Used Movie Pass to see this again and noticed Crucifix references in the war scarred areas. In fact, when they took Super's body off the hill a cross was in the background and his body was lowered as if from a cross. Was Snyder elevating Superman or lowering Christianity?
Funny: Batman saves Martha and she said he must be a friend of her sons. He asks why she asked and she replied it was the cape. That's the only giggle I saw.
Maybe lowering Christianity. He has Oscar in his mind.

...but chalked it off as more a result of the season and less to intention. However, I thought I saw the handful of dirt on the casket move right before the screen went dark. Hmmm? Also, it might just be semantics but I wouldn't say that one was being raised or lowered to the level of the other but more like equating them.

Interesting: She was Miss Israel before the age of 18, served the standard two years in the IDF, and made her first feature appearance in the Fast and Furious.

...local imax 3d. Liked it. Do I recommend it?...yes, I suppose, if you go in for this sort of thing....But this isn't your daddy's superman movie. It is non-stop action, yet the titular characters are busy searching their respective souls to figure out their respective roles in the modern world....a world that maybe doesn't want either of them in it.
High energy goes hyper-drive. Like on steroids.
Lots of mood.
Lots of darkly lit scenes and night sequences.
Psychotic dream sequences that blend the surreal with the real.
CGI is top drawer. Action sequences beginning to end. Big explosions.
Is there a plot?... yeah, kinda.
Top drawer cast.
This movie must have cost a ton to produce.
oh yeah; a new version of the Batmobile.....and a Batplane too!

...However........the one aspect of the spectacle that I found annoying was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor character. The part could have been better written AND cast. Really annoying. Two other points:
1. Batman v Superman set all kinds of attendance and revenue records in spite of nearly universal thumbs down from professional reviewers. I just love it when real audiences ignore the pros.
2. BW characterized it as "Nolanny" which it was IMO too. Probably no coincidence because CN was listed as an executive producer in the opening credits.

re: Eisenberg. I don't get out much and have only seen one other movie with him in it. A good one, I thought..... The Social Network. So seeing him as Lex Luthor in this flick was different. I can see the irritant. Him attempting to inflect some insanity into his mannerisms actually serves to annoy, or possibly alert, the other characters in the scene. It kind of plays to that in one or two scenes. Evil little prick.! Lex Luthor should be a big brainy criminal. Imagine Javiar Bardem as Lex Luthor. I think he could put some danger and terror into the character. Certainly not Eisenberg.
I'll accept the 'All Nolany'. Though I thought the director's (Snyder)envisioning of Batman and Gotham stands in stark contrast to what Nolan did with it in the last three 'Batman Begins' movies. Snyder seems a tick or two closer to Tim Burton...but with absolutely no humor and quite a lot deadlier. This Batman has maybe accepted that he's a criminal and seems close to allowing his building rage within to flow into his actions. Maniacal. Christian Bale was always measured and in control....well centered. Ben Affleck is about to blow his top.
I'm not exactly a Zack Snyder film fan. But I did like what he did with 300. Not so much Watchmen because I never followed the graphic novels or whatever. The previous Superman movie I didn't watch... This outing with Superman does show a thoughtful caring side to the character, even though he too was boiling over with exasperation if not rage.
I liked the Wonder Woman character. Gal Gadot. I think she was well cast in this role.
Only one (cameo)scene with Aquaman. Jason Mamoa. A few years back he was working his roles on the SyFy channel.

The great thing is going in with very low expectations and being nicely surprised. My main issue with it was the total lack of humour. It was well done for what it is and vastly better than the las horrible Superman movie. And it felt shorter than a 2.5 hour film which is a good thing.
As an aside I also wish they had written and cast by FAR the best Lex Luthor....Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville. A rich character in nuance and depth and Mayne THE reason to watch Smallville. In this movie Lex was basically the riddler without the riddles. Still it was a mild thumbs up for me.
I was surprised at the level of intimacy shown between Clark and Lois. So much for squeaky clean comic books.
Not an Eisenberg fan. He is the Jewish Sam E Jackson. He's just himself with his personality either amped up or down. He is tiresome here.
Right you are, no overt funnies cracked in this one. It was like Super Heroes Meet Sin City.
But, it does fly by which is to its credit.
The director, Zack Snyder.
Credits as director:
300
Watchmen
Man of Steel
etc. This director has a vision we haven't seen very much of....yet.
It's his atmospherics that seem to distinguish his work. The camera enhancements to the stunt work on 300 was bleeding edge when the movie was new. His characters seem more cartoon than live action. At least it seems so in the above noted 3 movies. I'll expect more of this for SvB.
thanks for the review.

It seems like a strange takeoff. Both Superman and Batman are usually popcorn summer films. Good guys and bad guys are well defined. I can easily see how the normal viewer of their movies could be disappointed.

...this interview says it all, perhaps.
...31% reviewer / 73% audience. Yours is the first "review" I've run across that didn't totally trash it. What do professional reviewers know about mass market entertainment likes and dislikes anyways? Decisions:decisions.
I like the judgements here better than from the paid pros. But some writings have provided background info on this flick. I read a lot of comic books when I was a kid, and Superman and Batman were pals. So what gives? As Billy indicated, its a jealousy thing. Petty teeny-bop behavior from guys who can destroy civilization? Still, what gives?
It seems that this studio/franchise/whatever was looking for a mechanism to jumpstart a DC Comics series of lucrative megaflicks like Marvel Comics is currently enjoying. They want in on the action, so to speak.
I don't know if most Marvel-based movies have enjoyed any better reviews, but this one appears to need a few more amps in its jumpstart. Besides, they ain't got no Thor or Hulk working for them. Stan Lee rules.

...for whatever that's worth. Most recent was "Deadpool" which is still in theatres in my area.
Friends who've seen "Dawn of Justice" are more aligned with RT's viewer's rating so I'm off to see it tonite in glorious IMAX 3D. Interestingly, there are 4 versions hereabouts: conventional 2D, IMAX 2D, RealD 3D and IMAX 3D. Like the laundry detergent aisle at the supermarket.
Most of the reviews disliked it for being dark, gloomy and serious. Personally that is good reason for me to watch it. I'd pretty much sworn off comic book movies, but I might see this one.
