...having read the book, I had high hopes for this film version starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
It is somewhat of a horror story about a company - think Facebook and Google combined on steroids - which controls the internet and takes away privacy in the interest making humanity nicer.
Anyway, the film was disappointing, leaving a lot of the nuances and character development aside to further the main plot.
It ends with a whimper unlike the book which had a scarier ending.
It was entertaining and I'd give it a C - good for streaming if there's nothing better to watch.
Follow Ups:
With a flaccid ending. We all know the nightmare of our modern existence so this film is out of sync for being informative.
If this came out five to seven years ago people would be talking about it everywhere.
I give it a D+ because of lackluster performances and its predictability.
...Watson did a great job in the lead role.
I'd highly recommend the book.
