DVD Player Suggestions Needed

68.13.97.128

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time in the Hi-Rez forum, and I know next to nothing about buying/using a DVD in a 2 channel system.

My wife and I listen to 2 channel exclusively - no home theatre setup, but we like the better picture the DVD players we have seen have compared to VHS tapes we have and rent, so we're in the market for a DVD player.

We have a decent (to us) CD player in the NAD C541i in my system, so the CD performance of the DVD player isn't too much of an issue.

We have a Sharp 27" tv (not digital), so progressive scan isn't needed now, but we may upgrade in the next year or 2.

My questions are:

1. Is the video performance of most DVD players in the +/- $250 price range pretty much the same when connected to a non-digital tv?

2. How about reliability issues with most DVD players. Any brands/models to stay away from?

3. Given that we might upgrade our tv in the next year or 2, should we give consideration to a DVD player now that will be compatible to a digital tv if/when we purchase one, or should we just buy a DVD player now, and worry about compatibilty with a digital tv later.

Thanks for any suggestions/help, and I apologize for the simplistic questions.
