For various reasons, you might want to stick with the same brand. Sometimes the "house sound" can also be applied to subs, and they were most likely tested with models they already own.

For the most part, though, subs are really room dependent. Really. Getting a demo unit to try it out would be the best bet, but probably not an option. You might ask...
