RE: rearprojection and blu ray !

I have a Pioneer Elite Pro710HD 64" rear projection, which is probably close to what you have. I did not get the BDP-51FD, but I did get the Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD. This unit has better component output performance than the 51.

I agree that someone misled you. It is illegal to provide 1080i output over component. Even though I have mine set to 1080i, it downconverts to 480 for standard DVD, and leaves it at 1080i for Blu Ray.

There was previously some firmware available for one or two of the Oppo players, which allowed it to do 1080i over component for standard DVD. However, that firmware was not provided by Oppo.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Blu Ray and the standard DVD performance, and both look great on my 710. I'll keep this TV, until it dies someday.
