It tends to get used by folks who prefer the old style kung-fu movies.
Actually there isn't that much wire(relatively) in flying daggers-not nearly as much as in Croutching tiger, Hero or Iron Monkey.
Fantasy Kung-fu is also called Wuxia, if I understand it correctly.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but “Wire Fu” lets me know what to expect. The wire assisted movements used to bother me as being so unnatural. After more exposure to it, I am able to appreciate its use as creative license to demonstrate strength and agility.
...strength and agility.Glad you liked the remark.
The wireworks are similar in vein to SG effects, except mechanical as opposed to digital. Both are effective considering their specific purposes.

Every commercial work relies on manipulation to drive a message, the viewer remains in control to accept or reject. Sometimes to accept the fantasy, rewards are allowed to happen.

I didn't realize I already have a region-free copy of this DVD from our local "source." In some Asian countries, it's known as something like "Lovers, " not "..Flying Daggers."In 5 minutes, I will be putting it into my 1080i upconverting DVD player :)

it looks better than Hero.
I posted some comments about a month ago on flying daggers. This is more linear, but Hero had a better ending. Both have stupendous photography. I highly recomend it. If you have a region free player, you can get it now.
enjoy,

I'm so glad to see the Hong Kong movies are finally spending the money necessary to incorporate much better special effects and costume/sets. There were a lot of HK movies in the past that had great acting and script but fell flat due to cheap production IMO.Now, if HK could find a lot more newer faces/talents so we don't have to see the same people over and over in all the "major" movies!
They(HK) are now trying to tap into the international scene. Croutching Tiger opened up their eyes a bit.
And Yes, more talent/faces would be nice.
