Saw the movie Cape Fear (1991). I am really sorry I did that. Something awful is created when Scorsese and De Niro get together. This movie simply did not make any sense. A little girl flirting with a criminal in some lonely place with a grin on her face. Jessica Lange smiling all the time. The cops with no control on a criminal just out of prison. Nick Nolte simply cannot act. Wonder why G Peck and R Mitchum appeared.

Follow Ups:
Yes, that scene between De Niro and Juliette Lewis was as memorable as any on film. I would even compare to the introductory scene between Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly in "Rear Window," which is my favorite.
flirting with a criminal just out of prison after 14 years! Against all orders of her parents. Cannot be compared with Grace Kelly romance, in my opinion. And nominated for best supporting actress! Pretty bad the Academy judgements were in those days, ie just 30 years ago. Martin Scorsese is hyped like crazy too.

Pales in comparison to the original and I love Scorsesse and DeNiro.
Mitchum is the shit in the original.

"If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking till you do suck seed" - Curly Howard 1936
which is an excellent classic.
Scorsese sets the tone in his opening scene with DeNiro walking into the camera.
Prime film manipulation at its best.
It's a troubling story and damn fine film making with excellent acting IMO.
