"Best" picture wise.
Mortensen was fantastic (much better than Malek), Ali solid.
Very good stuff!

Follow Ups:
The hilarious dance sequence and the rambunctious boy chasing girl in the woodland. Both choreographed wonderfully.

Although I liked 7 of the 8 nominated films - the Favourite was my favourite. And they spelled it right even if Bill Gates can't.
My main issue with the awards is that I am not sure quite how they pegged Olivia Coleman as best actress. I mean quality wise no problem but to me they screwed it all up. Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz were the leads and Coleman was the supporting actress to those two. If going by screen time.
There was no central protagonist and one could argue that all three were the central protagonist at different points of the film.
I just think all three should have been nominated for best actress or best supporting. But I guess the way they did this - they had a chance at two Oscars rather than 1.
Queen.

The Favorite the performances from what I have seen in clips appear to be quite good. However, the "style" of the picture for me looks to be along the lines of say a Coen Brothers, David Lynch or Ken Russell film. None of which I am a fan of....But I will see it sometime soon and decide.
I love the Coen Brothers, don't care for Lynch and Ken Russell never did a thing for me.
There are some... different... camera techniques used fairly discreetly, but the acting is so superb, the script
so fine and the pace and liveliness of the film so divine you owe it to yourselves to see it.
It's one of the few "celebrated" films from last year I'll look forward to seeing again.

IMO, Oscar well deserved.

There's a ton of Queen material to watch and Freddie did Freddie better than anyone.
As far as the story, it was told politely and uninterestingly and we found the film a bit
of a snooze.
Tough role to play and I suppose they couldn't have found anyone better to play it
but at the end of the film when they showed Freddie Mercury performing THAT put
the previous 2 or so hours in perspective.
Lots of top notch lip syncing just doesn't do it for me.

I just read the other day a list of the top front men for rock bands of all time... Freddie Mercury was #2 right behind Robert Plant (not sure I agree with that). These kinds of lists are always subjective as this list did not include Steve Perry which IMHO was a HUGE omission! The more I have looked at clips of Bohemian Rhapsody the more I am aware that ANYBODY trying to imitate the original will just pale in comparison... But I will see it at some point....

Flamboyant or not.

Aren't the performances in the movie 'staged'? Can do better than the original live performances. I remember seeing a Beatles biopic in which the guys performing as Beatles did a fantastic job. I also saw a live show in London by four London guys dressed up as Beatles and singing the ballads. Fantastic it was. Like clones of them.
Cheers
