Groundbreaking and shocking in 1969, it is a jumbled mess in the 21st century. Odd that Ken Russell used male nudity more than female nudity so I suppose he thought Bates and Reed were better looking which was homaged by Borat. The lack of rational dialogue made it tough to follow. It was a long 2:11:00.
Follow Ups:
IMO some of their films are pure genius. While others I sit their and think to myself, "What the hell am I watching here!"

I've checked out some of Ken Russell's films - The Boy Friend, Gothic, Whore, and Lair of the White Worm. Really want to find an uncut version of "The Devils". I have a copy of "Women in Love" from Criterion, but it's still in the on deck circle with many others. Appreciate the mention of this film even if it's not positive. That nude wrestling scene was supposedly controversial in it's day. I just hope it's amusing.
Anyone stream it? Free a blank on Prime and Netflix.

Didn't do it for me, and Glenda Jackson has NO tits, though she is a fine actress, viz., "Sunday Bloody Sunday."
My favorite Ken Russell movie is "The Devils" (1971) starring the great Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave.
Oliver Reed was in Woken in Love as was the guy from Zorba the Greek, the English dude, not Quinn. Ken Russell's most accessible movie was Altered States with William hurt playing his usual Zombie self.
Yeah, I liked that one. "That 'guy' is a Gorilla."
