...I saw it sat nite, 2 days after its Thu nite release in a 700 seat IMAX auditorium. I was the only person there. It presented an interesting idea but something about the production was off-putting. Maybe Depp will always be a parody of a pirate in the Caribbean.

The concept is important, take out the actor as the main character but include all of mankind in the brain upload and you'll see what has happened. A massive AI inclusive of everyone's brains into a nanotech control system, add in aerosol sprayed nanobots and you'll see this is beyond an organic simulation but something much bigger as is seen at the very end of the film, the nanotechnology water. Silver rain.
...and for the few "natural" humans that remain, the air will filled with sparkles as nano security and war bots continually annihilate each other literally before their eyes.
just like "The Matrix" that film could be real as well.
...Are you suggesting "The Matrix" wasn't a revelation of the true nature of reality? i.e. could be vs is.
It seems an organic simulation , Matrix is correct, Transcendence amplifies that by introducing nanotech into the mix, we aren't necessarily inside a computer, yet, I stress yet exponentially. Perhaps the nanotech is designed to upload us.
