I can't stand her! Both she an Robert DeNiro they're over-rated IMO...
Follow Ups:
But she nails everthing she's in. Big Little Lies was almost a no go for season 2, for me at least, when I saw she was going to be in it. She absolutely nailed the passive/aggressive character of Mary Alice like no one else could. She brings perfection to her craft like few others ever have. I also try to not let politics get in the way of my enjoying the visual and audio arts. Life's too short for such pettiness but, jmho and, obviously different strokes for different folks with full respect for their choices.

"E Burres Stigano?"
Both she and DeNiro are masters of their art. I like their politics as well.
Ever wonder why Streep can play a bitch (The Devil wears Prada and Kramer vs. Kramer) and DeNiro can play psychotic (Taxi Driver) SO well... it's because they ARE! It has nothing to do with "art"... Just channeling their natural selves. Your profile is a clue into your love for them... If you want to know what REAL acting is, take a look at some of Spencer Tracy's films... THAT is an actor!
The idea that DeNiro and Streep are psychotic is, to put it mildly, ridiculous. I will agree that Spencer Tracy was a great actor. I remember watching his performance in "Inherit the Wind" for the first time. It was amazing and memorable. The same could be said for "Judgement at Nuremberg".
I really liked his lighter work, and was surprised to find he dated men. Not that I mind I just wanted to mention the fact to give our right wing friend some insight he might have missed.
He mentioned Spencer Tracy AND Cary Grant as customers for Gay Partners.
And the guy went to bed with Rita Hayworth AND Lana Turner.
At the same time...

other than some old homosexual that wrote a book that he supposedly set up dates for Tracy... What IS well documented is that he lived for years with Katherine Hepburn in a house that he rented from famed director George Cukor... Either way I could care less...
No need to hit the capital key old man, it wasn't meant as an insult, and was clearly just Un manly gossip, nothing more. I never met the guy, so can't say, and wouldn't say if the statement was injurious.
For conversations sake, I'll add a bit. Nothing about the rock being gay, that's for sure.
I recently heard a film talk where the lesbians acting in Hollywood at that time were briefly mentioned.
Slightly puzzled that I was bummed when Loretta young was mentioned, she had a
tv show I never liked when I was a kid, but my sister did. And I never liked joan crawford anyway.
He spoke of a fan magazine story that named kate hepburn , along with a lot of others the actress had heard about, as liking women, and was so glad when she got to hollywood to learn the stories were true.
The speaker was an author, with several books on old films and hollywood, but none designed as scandal, just small books for movie buffs only, for sale n a card table in the lobby. He just got off the subject of the film we just saw during a question and answer talk.
Said the statement was printed in a small introduction interview story in a fan magazine, introducing the new german actress, deitrich. I kind of had already guessed why she wanted to be alone.
This statement was well known by gay film historians, where he said he first learned of this written proof, if a fan rag is proof. I guess she quickly learned she wasn't in Europe anymore, he said no such statements were ever repeated.
By the way, I agree , there is no proof that any star of that era was in the closet, it is all just stories. While it is true that a lot of creative types in the arts are gay, and back then one could be jailed, beaten or killed for homosexuality, one can't lump people into such generalities, it never fits.
I will repeat a story told to me by a gay man, said it was from the fifties. When I met the guy he was older , looked like a kindly old grandpa guy, slight of stature, dressed super conservatively, if a little too tidy,
Said he was working downtown as window dresser in May Co., ( a large Macys type department store) . When he got off work one day, two cops jumped him and beat him so badly that he had to recover in the hospital. Not easy being gay back then.
She had an illegitimate child with Clark Gable (a daughter) that she adopted as cover. that IS a fact.. Both Crawford and Dietrich were known to have had lesbian relationships and I have read that Crawford in particular was considered by many to be somewhat of a nymphomaniac (besides being somewhat psychotic). Before Tracy, Hepburn had a fairly long relationship with Howard Hughes and left Hughes for Tracy. Rumors always abound about people in the arts... I worked almost my entire career in retail visual merchandising and certainly I was subjected to the rumors strictly because of the business that I was in... It's unfair, but part of the territory.
Come to think of it, the guy did mention that crawford had a rep for having sex with her leading men. One thing about those hollywood guys, they are good story tellers.
I wish I could transmit the response he repeated when he asked jack palance about working with joan crawford , during a question and answer at the american cinematheque. A gentleman never tells, but the way he described the slow response, the chin rub, the next question answer, cracked the audience up.
Maybe he mis spoke about lorretta young, I wouldn't want to slander anyone about their personal sexuality, if that is still possible with modern social concepts. The name just stayed with me , we had one TV in my black and white TV childhood, and my sister liked to watch the weekly loretta young show. She used to descend a staircase in a ball gown to start the show, very high fashion. The lesbian tag was a surprise because of that , and stuck with me. I have a lesbian cousin, far from the ball gown type.
I do remember watching The Barbara Stanwyck Show with my parents, which I recently started to watch on Prime... It's pretty good and she was a phenomenal actress....
I did hear a radio interview with Tab hunter, I think that is his name. He started as a teen heart throb, blond , did some movies, good looking, even put out a few musical singles, although he couldn't sing.
He was doing a radio interview promoting a designers week in palm springs, where you tour houses around town. He was involved as a community member, and had been publicly out of the closet for a while.
When asked about the tell all book, he said it didn't conflict with any of his experiences, and that they all used the same agent, his entire client roster was gay. I wasn't taking notes, but I think he said he got hooked up with a job at the gas station when he first hit town, from a friends advice.
Said he only worked there a couple of days, and just did station work. As soon as he met his agent, he got set up with an apartment and started his hollywood career.
Again, all heresy , Plus, I always got this guy and another guy mixed up, they were both around the same time, I forget the other guys name. For all I remember, the interviewee was the other guy. He said it was always a problem getting confused with the other guy.
though one was gay and the other was not....
I had no idea about Spencer Tracy's sexual preference but it makes no difference to me. As TWB pointed out he really was a great actor. Ideally an artist's work should be judged independently of such considerations but I have to admit that I'm not innocent of such behavior. When I see Jon Voight in a film now my first thought is his current political stance. I think that colors my view of his work, and that shouldn't happen.
BUT, Tracy never bad mouthed TWB's favorite orange head.
Thusly...

Wow ... that was sick. I see all the righties hate this movie. Sad. Commoners like you and I get screwed like this all the time. So you don't like seeing these kind of people taken down?
It's official, our country is halfway down the toilet never to return to our once great status.

Reality. I wasn't angry. I was only directing the truth as I see it to anyone that reads the post.

PC culture has gotten us to the place we are as a nation and got a leader elected who vowed to change it... I was sickened yesterday watching those people praise a dead man who left the people that elected him behind and became part of the perennial swamp. One swamp creature after another extolling the virtues of man who IMO neglected his oath of office.... It was disgusting! BTW, it hasn't been great since Reagan left office but at least someone is making an attempt to change it...
