Regular 2k and 4k projection has proved adequate for theater projection.I can see from watching, the detail in theaters can be improved on. I know they have the technology to do it. I think 8k (32Mp) would be instantly noticeable on the big screen. That and 120p would be spectacular.
Follow Ups:
My poor old boomer eyes don't know the diff.
All I do know is that my fave theaters are using DLP which seems to give a better qaulity picture than the others.
And?
That is $300k, WITHOUT the lens. So... Heck, bet you can get a decent projection lens for.. say $10k.
That gives you ONE screen.
Better have a full house, for pretty much every show, and popcorn, Coke, and candy had better be flying off the shelf to cover the cost!
Gonna say? I chat with somebody who has an 8K laser projector system at home, and has some kind of "subscription" to receive 1st run movies. His projector was not too much shy of 1/2 that cost, and his movie service is in the 4 digits/month... I'm pretty happy having a 55" 4K set & finding SOME content at that resolution.
8K for home use is overkill (and expensive). 8K will be probably quite good I the movie theater with a 50 foot screen though.
