best Tarkovsky film. Or Tarr. Can a film be better than "Wild Strawberries" or "The Seventh Seal?" Or "Berlin Alexanderplatz?"
That said, "The Passenger" indeed is a fine film, one that I've watched many, many times. The scenes in the Gaudi setting are wonderful. It doesn't hurt the film to have Maria Schneider, either. What a wonderful young career--- playing opposite two mega-stars (Brando, of course, the other).
I must confess to enjoying several other Antonioni films just as much...
Follow Ups:
Tarkovsky? That's the easy one: Solaris. Natalia Bondarchuk's wet shirt scene wins hands down.
BTW - I just discovered that there was another Russian film on that book - the 1968 version, which I have not seen. So you can say you post did its valuable contribution for today!
I will try to locate that one, as the lead actor is a good one.
BTW, playing opposite Brando left deep emotional scars on Maria, as is well documented. She's got lot more than she was bargaining for.
I love Antonioni.

1968 Solaris is not really a movie, it is a made for TV stage production, still is worth a look. And with English subtitles!
