Really?
It was nominated for Best Actor (Pryce) Best Supporting Actor (Hopkins) and Best adapted Screenplay.
It also got 4 nominations at the Golden Globes.
While it is true, thankfully, that Hollywood is largely secular, thankfully, out of the hundreds and hundreds movies made,Hollywood recognized Two Popes in three major categories.
If it's a good film on any topic it will get recognized.
But the warped U.S. version of Christianity is more like Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas - greed and gluttony matter more than Granny.
Heck if Jesus did come back - being poor and ARAB and touting give to the poor - he'd be locked in a cage on the southern border.
Follow Ups:
WIN any awards... and please spare me the lecture on what you consider to be the shortccomings of U.S. Christianity, I can do without that.
Thanks - and I can do without you implying there needs to be more God.People vote for what they think is the best movie/performance. And all votes carry some bias. I am not religious. But I would have voted for the Exorcist in 1974 which starred real Catholic Priests and not actors and was supported by the Catholic Church (made them look good). I am not religious and I would have voted for it.
So the idea that because someone doesn't believe in God would not vote for a movie that is about religion is silly.
I would vote for Religulous too. A film about Religion.
