They don't have too many original ideas, that's for sure. All seem to want to get blockbusters that will be shown on those lousy cable channels forever, with most of the cable goobers in a contest to see who can run Avatar, Transformers, Jurassic Park, Titanic, Back to the Future, National Lampoon Vacation and Caddyshack the most times.
We are being served what the demographics want, not "art". Have you noticed the growing number of Asian and Arabic names in the credits? Soon, we will have "social credit approved" films spinning out to all venues.
What someone's name has to do with quality of Hollywood production?
You premise here seems that Asians and those with Arabic names can not produce quality material? Or such audience does not appreciate quality material?
Your post is more telling of you than of Hollywood. You could not, maybe, think that increased number of such names is because those are good in what they are doing? Or maybe because immigrants and their US born citizens do not anglicize their names any more? Or shitload of other reasons?
It seems that it bothers you because they are not "white" names? For the same reason that very few know who Farrokh Bulsara is? Or Natasha Nikolaevna Zakharenko, or Issur Danielovitch, or Mladen Sekulovich...

I am not sure I understand what you mean. Movies are for entertainment - the demographic want to be entertained. Which is why films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars exist. They're entertainment. Since it's moving pictures it is also "art."

A lot of the grunt work is done overseas to save money - like many American companies that chose to move overseas - chose to fire American workers - chose to skirt pollution control laws and CHOSE to save money - they moved - the Arabic and Chinese countries didn't hold a gun to White American's heads to make them do that. So they can hire many people named Wong and Lee and Chan to work 16 hours a day to get the film complete.
Most 99%+ of all producers in Hollywood are Caucasians with millions - they COULD afford to pay Barry and Thomas and Don $25 an hour - these White Hollywood execs would have to give up one of their 8 palatial homes and maybe one of their fleet of 12 Bentley's and we can't have that - how could they possibly live on that? So they hire the Lee's, the Wong's and the Usman's at $25 a WEEK instead.
And then crazy people blame the Lee's, the Wong's and the Usman's trying to feed their family, for stealing American jobs. But the Hollywood producer - well he's fine because after all he is white and made Spider-man for the "Art" and not all to make a profit.

Proactive education to get people when they're young to appreciate art and to be highly educated. Since none of that is happening - we become reactionary to the problems that come about down the line. Every problem from lack of taste to Coronavirus to riots and police violence are all "reactions" - and it all stems from not being proactive through early childhood education all the way through high school.
The arts have generally been hacked away in the school systems and phones have reduced attention spans to nil.
The fault is with the public craving to see the latest MCU universe film and eating the Big Mac - get them to value "quality" and the film making industry will be forced to make it - and indeed they will want to make it for a demanding/discriminating public.

Who cares, though, as long as foreign films find venues? Actually, I care because it is difficult most of the time to find top foreign films in theaters--- on line just isn't the same. I don't care how great your home theater is, it ain't nowhere close to a theater big screen.
But there are plenty of foreign films that make up for the dearth of Hollywood quality production. That's been the case for years and years.
Streaming original films? Unless the writing improves, it's going to follow films into a descent into "Wow!" (zzzzzz...)
True but you can better the sound at home. And sit closer to your TV - kind of bigger screen then.
Some current ones do, but try to see L'Avventura in theater.
Good size screen plus a reasonably priced projector will bridge the gap sufficiently.
a (relative) great success, it would be from an established, more well-known director. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised to see its (again, relatively so) wide release. Meanwhile, "Burning," a film I thought was superior to it, was very difficult to find on the big screen.
Perhaps the best of recent foreign releases, "An Elephant Sitting Still," by a young Chinese filmmaker (Hu Bo, who admitted to being a fan of Tarr's) (and Bela reciprocated by highly praising the young man), had been almost impossible to find in theaters (pre-virus, of course).
Tragically, there will be no more of Bo's work: he committed suicide soon after the film's release.
"Bridge the gap sufficiently." Not for me. My Kuro was great, but I couldn't compare it to the thrill of seeing 10 ft. tall lips or the audience experience (usually, early in the day to avoid noise makers).

Perhaps you have not experienced a 10 foot screen with good projector in your room.
There is no limit to what's available. I once installed equipment in Rupert Murdock's home theater in lower Manhattan. There was a projector room with two 35mm projectors and one huge DLP one. Full time projectionist. The films were delivered to him straight from the vaults of 20th Century Fox.
Perhaps THAT home theater model would make you excited? :)
It's a far bigger compromise and I would not be satisfied having seen 10' tall lips (not screen, that's still small).
And you're taking a lot of license with logic: I don't have Murdock or Croesus pockets. A typical 65" screen experience vs theater screen is more like bookshelf speakers compared to large full-range...
Saddest thing in the world is these fellows with their massive home systems. I knew one who invited me to watch a film: he had the plush theater seats, even a popcorn machine (from one of his shuttered theaters). His wife, somewhat exasperatedly, confided to mine that he invited "just about everyone!"
Similar situation to larger sailboat owners: they die of loneliness. No one wants to play with their toys.

Hollywood simply is our own reflection. Mediocre tastes breed mediocre production.
Well... mine to lesser degree, as I try not to send them any of my money.
I had a "movie pass" subscription and was very judicious in using it because of the mediocrity. I just patiently wait until a well a rated film comes out now. The more films I watch, the more discerning I get. After seeing some very good ones, I get more sophisticated in my tastes.
No formula movies
Its got to have believable acting.
Low budget is OK if it's a good story
