I don't think he's the best but I like him. I would like to see Idris Elba in the role. Jason Stathan would also be an interesting choice.
-Wendell
he has the style and class of Roger Moore, oops. Nevermind. Then I pondered Jonathan Rhys Myers: Ugly, mean, much depth, in the vain of Craig. I think making equality concessions in settled stories is inconceivable. Would you want Cuba Gooding playing Churchill?
I never understood the hoopla over having a female Jane Bond.
I mean the movies are mostly about making money. So what they could have done or maybe should have done is to make a 2020 007 James Bond adventure and then in 2024 and 2028. Then in 2022 and 2026 and 2028 made a 006 Jane Bond series.
It stands to reason there are several 00 agents so rather than piss off the Die hard fans who will instantly start ranting that it's SJW - just have a second 00 agent. Then the Bond fans won't be pissed off and you get more actions films in the series.
And if it proves to be popular - they can crossover.
I always like The Avengers Television show with Steed and Peel - but the Americans took over the film version at shat the bed with a dreadful pile of crap.
A shame because having Connery as the bad guy, Ralph Fiennes as John Steed and Uma as Mrs. Peel I really looked forward to that. Eesh the writing.
and I'm not sure they ever crossed paths. The idea of reviving 007 as Jane Bond is enough to send me into the streets. But, as you suggest, 006 or 008 is a plausible extension. Craig's series highlight was "Casino Royale" and the other stories were "reaching" to a formula. So, the new girl would work with entirely new stories/plots developed in a less spectacular way (to my preference).
Actually they dod have other 00 agents - in the Brosnan series the other 00 agent turned out ot be a bad guy (a double agent as it were) and in one of the early bond movies - I forget which but a 00 agent 008 or something was dressed as a clown and was running away from the bad guys and was shot and killed.
Also consider how many times James Bond was dealing with a Russian or Asian agent who were their countries' top spy/agent. This there is a premise for females as "agents."
I agree with the Bond die hards not to changed James to Jane in a 007 movie. But I am quite happy for a second series 006 Jane Bond. Different character and a different set of inuendos. The Avengers TV series in a lot of ways is better than the 007 movies because they had sexual tension and they played off each other very well. And that show began in black and white so I don't have to read the whiney little bitches in 2020 moaning about a female lead as an agent. The people who whine about SJWs are such crybaby snowflakes.
My Fav Bond movie.
Brosnan had good opening escape scenes.

Far better music, too.

What did Roger Moore do?
Bill
...
did all that skiing. Perhaps some past Olympic gold medalist did it for him.
Bill
Gee, ya think? I'm going to tell him you said that.
did NOT do the ski jump in the movie (The Spy Who Loved Me ). The stunt was performed by Rick Sylvester. Moore was the Bond for the movie and is associated with the scene. But he did not perform the stunt. Just like he and the other Bond actors don't perform most of the stunts in the James Bond movies.
Roger Moore and the other Bonds were not obviously foolish enough to act the stunt scenes. They have specialized in soft romantic scenes and taught us how to seduce spies. Connery was the best of the lot.

Lots of opinion on this, so I won't Argue, but note that IIRC, the Bond of the novels was from a working class upbringing. The Connery characterization was VERY urbane and 'Saville Row' sophisticated.
Too much is never enough
I think Connery was the Seville Row fantasy of the working class. Craig is one better in that regard.
