This one centers around a well regarded photographer for Life magazine. He goes to Japan to cover a story about the effects on locals due to poisoning of the water by a huge manufacturing facility. I found it to be a moving story based on actual events. Depp plays the lead role and I thought he did it well.
Follow Ups:
For his Minimata documentation, he was beaten severely by corporate goons trying to shut him up. His photographs of the mercury victims were very hard hitting. He is also recognized for similar work documenting Schweitzer's clinic in Africa, and for a series called "Country Doctor", about a man in rural Kansas putting in long hours for his circuit patients.
You can find his books easily enough, still in print or available used. Not pretty pictures.
I haven't heard about this film, so thanks for the notice.

being in the same league.
Thanks for adding this. I took Life magazine back then and some of the images from this story are etched into my memory. Very powerful.
Looks quite interesting-
Happy Listening
