The movie Joker. A social commentary about the lack of medical care. Had he had full health coverage he would have been given his needed medications and there would be no movie.
Breaking Bad would have ended after one episode. Walter White gets cancer and goes to a hospital in free healthcare country. Walter gets 100% coverage for free. End of show. All the death and destruction that followed (including an airline crash) would have all been avoided. The price of Walter's cancer treatment VS the cost of all that happened as a result of not giving Walter free cancer treatments. LOL - Pretty slick - follow the price vs cost analysis. Ditto the movie Joker.

But medications don't address the root cause, they only make the patient dependent on the system. Welfare state in action. Joker told his psychologist at the beginning all the drugs he was taking weren't working.
He wasn't killing people until he was off the meds.US is the only industrialized country without a universal healthcare system.
Funny thing is I have lived overseas for well over a decade in different countries and I have never come across an American who missed the US healthcare system - indeed most of them never want to return because they keep more money in their pockets and they get better health care on top. I have never seen people protesting in Canada or Australia to give up their healthcare for the US system.
As a Canadian - I can choose my own doctor - I can also pay for private doctors if I want to. It is single-payer not socialized. You won't see that on Fox News mind you. Single-payer means the Doctor and you decide on your treatment - the doctor sends the bill to the government and the government says - they do NOT make a decision on your health. No HMO in the US telling you what operation or what hospital you are allowed to go to (freedom? How is it free if an HMO controls your life!
Sometimes it's good to get out and live in other parts of the world to see stuff in action rather than just rely on news reports trying to convince you that a bad deal is a good deal.

This would be more appropriate on Central----and it would inform a lot of the misinformed that reside there. OF course, you have to expect a massive amount of that "exceptionalism" BS: there is no treatment for that, I'm afraid.
and this bit kind of convinced me to try and get the hell away from the dumbass right-wing Maga worshipping boobs on Central. 45 was president for 4 years - if someone watched that trainwreck for 4 years and were on Central reading all the arguments and still voted for him a second time in 2020 - then you are never going to be able to present anything that will change their minds. I like Canada's healthcare system and I have spoken to doctors who lived and worked as Doctors in both countries. There are many videos too. And I and they noted that if the US adopted the same system - it would actually be BETTER in the US due to America's vast infrastructure already in place. But you have a totally morally and ethically corrupt and 100% completely unnecessary "middle man" STEALING all of your money (Insurance companies)
These HMOs are ZERO Value-added corrupt businesses getting between you and your doctor and serve as your Communist overlords. You and your doctor do not get the final say on your treatment. Instead, this horrible outfit makes decisions in your life and gets between you and your FREEDOM of healthcare.
But good luck convincing the Republicans on this - it's baffling to me because they're known as the party that cares about money money money above ALL else. And yet - it's far more expensive and offers far FAR worse service. Indeed, it causes people to die because they're scared of the bills. And every American who has lived in a well-developed country and sees their systems firsthand change their view real fast.
But I don't get the sense the Trumpers travel much or expose themselves to new ideas - they are the people who vote for people who ban 1984 or panic about books like "my two moms" so there is no point in talking to these people. In real life, I would walk away from them (emigrate to avoid them) or punch them in the face.
In fact it appears Covid is making a pretty strong comeback right now.

Not sure what your point is - Covid has hit every country. Statistically, it has generally been far worse in the US as a percentage of the population.The US has roughly 10 times the population of Canada. Thus, Canada to be equal to the US should have about 1/10th the numbers.
The US has 83million Covid cases so Canada "should have" 8.3 million cases. (1/10th) but Canada has 3.75 million cases. The US has 1,020,000deaths so Canada should have 102,000 deaths but only has 39,243 deaths.
The USA has 3051 deaths per 1 million people.
Canada has 1023 deaths per 1 million people.So while Canada has had rather crappy results - it's still about 3 times better/safer in terms of cases and deaths than living in the US.
I live in Hong Kong - where currently we were last month the worst in the world for cases per million and the highest death rates in the world - after 2 years of being near the safest - there are reasons for this spike, however.

Again, well-stated. I've also lived in other countries and have no neuroses preventing me from objectively comparing them to the US. All other countries call it bribery, here it's called lobbying. Once money is allowed free access to political figures, it's really game over.
Canada indeed is far more amenable to my outlook. I spent many years in Minnesota, one half of my family hails from it. At one time, the Midwest was a bastion of liberal, cooperative-farming folks who believed in each other. Now? It's MAGA signs across all rural areas.
Canada has no history of slavery. That poison, today manifested in covert and overt racism, destroys social cohesion among the classes who most would benefit from well-governed health and other programs.

Pop quiz, why did Joker supposedly kill his mother by smothering her with a pillow when she had one of those air tubes attached to her nose? Also, even if he did it wasn't because he was off his meds, it was because he found out she was the one who abused him as a child and lied to him. And the reason he killed the three guys on the train it wasn't because he was off his meds it was because they deserved it, more or less. He was defending himself.

I'm pretty sure your system has flaws, too. The US health care system works best for those who need it most, over 62, it is relatively cheap and comprehensive I'd you chose to get supplemental insurance. No complaints here. If you don't have proper insurance obviously things can get out of hand. Health care insurance including dental started to get expensive for government contractors more than 30 years ago because in order for companies to be competitive on contracts they had to cut back on health insurance.
Canadians pay more taxes than Americans - I know the Toronto Blue Jays players sit middle of the pack in Major League Baseball so it's not as bad as I would have thought for the millionaires - they managed to convince them to play in Toronto so they would not go there if the taxes were a lot higher.
In Canada there ZERO income tax on the first $13,229 earned. So if that's all you made in a year - you would pay no income tax. If you made a million well you still pay no income tax on that first $13,229. 100% free and clear in your pocket. And you get full free healthcare for you and your family even with million-dollar operations - not too shabby. If the expert for your operation is in Brazil or India or America - you will get sent there for your operation - free. Sweet eh?
But then the harsher taxes come
From $13,230 to $50,197 of taxable income, you have to pay 15%
20.5% on the next $50,195 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over 50,197 up to $100,392), plus
26% on the next $55,233 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $100,392 up to $155,625), plus
29% on the next $66,083 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over 155,625 up to $221,708), plus
33% of taxable income over $221,708
The US has zero taxes for first $20,000 or so, maybe it's more. You just need a good tax consultant if your situation is more complicated. Many large corporations in US pay very little in taxes, some got money back, can you believe it? It's nice to see Canadians have figured out US tax system, we haven't quite figured it out yet.
