Colin Farrell and Viggo Mortensen head the cast as the innovators that worked to save the lives of the 13 cave trapped boys in Thailand a few years back. Ron Howard directed. I found it a compelling story and was shocked that they came up with such an innovative way to get the boys out. It's on Prime. Highly recommended....
Follow Ups:
in a K-hole. I was given an overdose of ketamine in an emergency room about 3 years ago. For me it was a nightmare that left me shook for 3 or 4 weeks. It was hard for me to watch a movie with so many ketamine injections.
Have not seen it. I was completely engrossed by The Rescue, the documentary that was made on this incident, the British introverted cave divers, the Aussie doctor who came up with the risky scheme, all the real people. I'm sure the Hollywood version is well done, but given the choice, I'd rather see the real people than actors playing them. Anyway, The Rescue is really good, it is made by the people who made Free Solo, which is also an outstanding doc.
as I remarked to my wife after viewing it, I found it very odd that they were undertaking such a monumental and life-saving task that they took the precious time to document it on video.... For me it smacked a little like an episode of The Karsnatchians... It took some of the luster away IMO from the serious task at hand. It was however nice to see the "real" people involved. Colin Farrell was a good choice for the English diver in Ron Howard's film...
You know I did not mean to disparage the new version. By reviews it is quite well done. I guess since I know the details, I feel less need to revisit it. Of course a reenactment can take the viewer places that were not captured in real life. So at some point I will probably watch it.
