While being comparitively restrained, this movie is the wire-fu equivalent to the hollywood comic book summer blockbusters. Plenty of beautiful visuals along with the requisite explosions and destruction near the end. Who knew wooden huts could make so much noise?

I couldn't help but think about the three stooges when the main female lead's character resolved her thematic conundrum. Nyuk nyuk nyuk!

I saw it when it first came out. No chemistry between the 2 main characters, bad writing, and bad fight scenes. Several characters were ripped off from other movies. I wanted to like this, but really couldn't.
If you want to see something MUCH better along these lines, try Azumi (one of Shinobi's characters was taken from this).

  I'll check out Azumi when I have a chance. Are the non-region 1 dvd versions 1.33:1 aspect ratio or are they widescreen? I couldn't tell on an initial search.
  
  BTW, what's your source for these asian region films? I'm just starting to get some utility out of my region free player.

    Most Asian flicks are widescreen. I tend to get alot of my imports from Yes Asia. Good selection, and fast service. I sometimes get Japanese films from CD Japanm www.cdjapan.co.jp

      Thanks for the sources. What I meant by my 1.33:1 question was the only Azumi region 1 dvd I could find was 1.33. I was just wondering if that was the movie's format or if it is widescreen originally. I'm assuming it is widescreen in other regions. :-)

        Really? I didn't know that. That sucks. I have the Japanese version(R2), and its widescreen.
