Quite an interesting multi-storyline film. This has an impressive cast including Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Dean Martin. It came out in the late fifties and is one of the first American war films that examined the psychology of being soldiers. (I'm counting "Twelve O'clock High" and "The Men")
Who has seen this interesting film? Any comments?
Me? I like it a lot. While I don't think it's on a par with the aforementioned films, I find it thought provoking and quite well done. Brando's casting is unusual but actually works and Dino proved he actually did have some acting chops. Clift is, well, his usual melancholy everyman and shows why he was one of the finest actors of his generation - every bit as good as Brando but a lot more subtle.
Follow Ups:
Saw the film about three years ago and enjoyed it greatly. Brando and Clift in the same film! Now that I'm reminded, can't wait to rent it again, and not sure why I haven't already.
Rod
wimp persona.
The boy that didn't grow up. His talent could only overcome so much nature.
Doesn't belong in the same category as Brando or Dean.
He try hard, maybe too hard. For that he has to get the credit he merite.
