I know this is not the place for this, but has anyone seen the movie yet?
We went Friday night and I got to tell you, it was much better than the critics had claimed.
I thought it was one of the better of the "Potter" series....
Follow Ups:
..., but, have watched all the films. 'Prisoner of Azkaban' was my favorite before this one, which is one of the darker ones (like 'Azkaban'), but this one ranks as the best because, though it's slower through much of it, it has character development none of the others can approach.
Oh, and I must qualify... I could watch Emma Watson sleep for two hours and come out with a recommendation.
...I thought the previous two Harry Potter films were better.
But I enjoyed this one nonetheless.

Saw it on the first day at an IMAX theater, with the last scene in 3-D!! Quite a treat. I liked the movie, definitely better than the last one IMHO. My one regret is that it wasn't longer; they had to cut too much cool stuff from the book, and I wish the movie had slowed down to take a breath once in a while. But a really fun time; and since my daughter is the world's greatest Harry Potter fan (self-appointed) I'm sure to see it again!
...driven by a single enormous vacuum tube!!! It was in a scene where the kids were rehearsing for the Yule ballroom dance. I'm not sure if it was an actual prop on the set or just a computer-generated image; it didn't quite look like a real transmitting tube.
Funny how the wizards can use Muggle technology if it's old enough (e.g. steam locomotives).
The Victrola was a style of phonograph sold by Victor Talking Machines that hid the horn. From the tone arm of a Victrola, the sound went down; the horn opening of a Victrola was below the turntable, often behind a grill.
It looked like a much larger version of the horn that the dog is listening to in the old "his master's voice" trademark.
Since I assume there's no "ekeltricity" in Hogwarts, the tube must have been heated and biased by magic...I wonder which spell?
definitely too long, but the last hour was very entertaining. the best in of the movies is still the prisoner of azkaban IMHO.
the current movie seemed a little melodramatic at times without being genuinely dark.
still fun though.
see ya,

I look forward to doing so. Have all the other movies on DVD. Do you have any of the John Williams' scores? They are all very nice. I can heartily recommend Prisoner of Azkaban as my favorite.
The immediately recognizable "Hedwig's Theme" (Harry's owl) is a beautiful and bewitching piece. "Buckbeak's Flight" transports you with Harry soaring in the clouds and skimming the water. "The Whomping Willow" begs to be cranked wide open. The dynamics are striking in this emotional piece.
Nice music!

I do not have the soundtracks, but will get them!
Thanks for the suggestion...I love the music in the movies.

Willimas did fine work on HP. I think POA is the best HP soundtrack and the best HP film, by far.
The first film's soundtrack is good too. COS was not actually composed by Williams, so it's not as strong IMO.
The last two films were scored by a different compposer.
I enjoued this latest film quite a bit. second best HP film so far.
I find anything by John Williams to be worth considering. Ever since the first Star Wars movie (Episode 4), I have found him to be a very gifted composer. I am a big fan of movie soudtracks anyway, and find that most people dont really appreciate them as much as they should. A great amount of excellent music is found on movie soundtracks. It really makes or breaks a lot of films.
Other current favorites of mine are "Memoirs of a Geisha" (also Williams) and "Lemony Snickett" from Thomas Newman. Both have some very tasty sonic moments.

I need a copy of the "Christmas Vacation" soundtrack....I understand it is quite rare.
I looked for it when that movie came out and have yet to find one.
Any ideas?
-Phil
Usually Amazon can get most anything, but can only locate the soundtrack for the original movie.
