particularly exciting. No terrible villain. No likeable victim. No great mystery. Cinematography of the great era NYC just average.
A good film, yes, in its workmanlike approach but hardly a "gripping, fascinating, thrilling city expos�."
Barry Fitzgerald as the chief detective that's seen it all is memorable, however. He does more with a look than a thousand followers have with all their scenery chewing.

reflection brings back some extremely powerful memories, such as the scenes with the victim's mom.
A very good film.
Not the film I expected and that was the reason for my under-appreciation. Definitely one to see.

  Plus I disagreed with you on William H. Daniels' cinematography being "just average". I found it compelling and an integral part of why ng the film works as a whole.
