  I still remember apologizing to my date as we left the screening. She looked perplexed. We made it to the Scatman Crothers

    Especially impressive: The Japanese girl trying to make the boyfriend smile. She makes funny faces, smears his mouth with lipstick, lights his cigarette with her feet, places the lighter back in his shirt pocket in a similiar manner, to no benefit; he's still skowling. A three minute take! A lot of work there along with the other gems in the movie.
    
    And Memphis. Lots of long, slow, quiet takes of Memphis.

  Sometimes I cue it up just to hear that ridiculous Karl's Disco Weiner Haven song - that segment is always funny.
