Gritty, faded, stark and full of shit-kicking violence and murder. Charlie Bronson's "Death Wish" looks like a Disney production next to this.
This "classic tale" of a civilian's revenge is thoroughly updated for our times with tattooed, neonazi-looking, meth-cooking, psycho punks who kill for thrills. The atmosphere was so dreary I thought the film was three hours long (not so).
Kevin Bacon loses his son to a gangland slaying and his vengeance trips a war between him and the leader. John Goodman cameos as Psycho Dad of the Year and a pretty (but aging) Kelley Preston (Travolta) plays Bacon's wife.
One thing I noticed: The gang violence was so bad that the license plates on the cars had been painted black with white numbers. There was no way to tell where it was supposed to be or where it was filmed. Rightfully so--no good advertising here. (South Carolina was location.)
Unless you really want to see people act like animals--take a pass.

One of the stupidest movies I have ever seen. The intense lack of the most basic logic made it utterly laughable. Made the typical Michael Bay movie look like genius. The stylings were heavy handed and without purpose. Was this directed by a music video director?
When the detective told Baconbits he had started a war did he do the "classic" and send her and the kid to her mother's? Nooooooh, they stayed home and went to bed.

The gang tries to take him out in broad daylight on a busy upscale street. they have a ridiculous chase that ends in a ridiculous death by car going over the edge. there are dozens of witnesses. the cops are basically a no show. So what does the guy do after he is attacked and clearly knows he is a marked man and his family may be in danger? Goes to work and pretends nothing happened. But obviously he shouldn't tell the cops. look what happens when he finally does and they try to prtoect him and his family against a known threat of a gang hit. two dead cops. But they must have been expendable because there is no apparent attempt to arrest the gang memebers who killed two cops. the lack of logic just goes on and on.
