clever repartee written for Sarandon and Jones.
But there were those careful little depth-charges throughout (the package...) you just knew were going to explode sometime.
Actually, this film recalled some which were far superior. That Guantanamo film with Nicholson, Cruise, and Demi, for instance or that other one with Meg Ryan, Denzel, and a couple of other good actors.
War, yes, is murky but it doesn't follow that films about it should be.
Compared to "The Kingdom" this is terrific. In wider context, however, this is about 2 and 1/2 stars.
Follow Ups:
Crash.

Other than the gratuitious (sp?) boobies I hated Crash, if "Elah" is anything like that I'll probably skip it...
More manipulative than a Brooke Shields romance, right down to the Summers Eve piano music. Promises a lot up front, and delivers nothing.
The comment was because tinear and I have exchanged posts about his liking and my not liking Crash.
"You can safely assume you have created God in your own image when he hates all the same people you do."
as
is not good.
"You can safely assume you have created God in your own image when he hates all the same people you do."
film, have never seen him mentioned without the snippet that he attended Harvard.
Whoopeee!!!!

I think his career high-point was portraying Gary Gilmore. Too bad. I think he could have done a lot more but his face betrays a very, very, (did I say "very?") hard-lived life.
