I got a new trailer for Sweeney Todd in my inbox this morning: http://gloob.tv/movies/trailer_sweeney_todd?article=1976 Can't wait. It'll be interesting to see the way Tim Burton realizes this story, I've only ever seen it on stage. I'm glad it ended up being him, even if people are saying that this is just another Tim Burton stylized piece that won't stand apart from the others... I think the story is perfect for his style. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Sasha Baron Cohen...

This trailer seems to avoid the singing. The few seconds where we see and hear Depp singing does not bode well. "Sweeney Todd" is one of the greatest pieces of American music theatre, period. It's score is extremely demanding bordering on the operatic.
To no one's surprise, this trailer reinforces my hunch that Tim Burton is emphasising the gothic horror elements. Nothing wrong with that but let's not forget ST is, first and foremost, a musical!
