Can't say I got a lot from this. The man was unknown to me, and so had no resonance for me, I therefore had to take the film at face value bringing nothing to it.The film tells of the researching and writing of his one famous novel, and the book that seemed to break him. He is played as effete - an interpretation that is borne out by some historic footage in the extras. Of more interest to me was the partnership with Harper Lee, whether this was consummated looks doubtful in the film.
As I love 'To Kill a Mockingbird' I did a bit of digging following the film and found that Lee lived next to Capote when growing up and based the character of Dill on him.
My problem with Capote is that I did not empathise with him. As events moved forward and he started to implode I just saw him as human leech and voyeur.
One I hired and won't be buying.

You never go out?
The term can mean a condom, or a bonnet in the 19th century ...
Either way I'm not convinced that the earlier term has anything to do with Truman Capote?
Not to him but to you...
Ok ok I was just trying to tell you that you are innocent in a certain way...
And ..why not...
Point is that I have known men who are gay, men who are effeminate and straight, guys and women who have lived together but are not sexually active. The film had lots of sub-text, but nothing was - to me - actively spelt out.
In terms of his motivations I see venal behavior around me, whether this is in peoples willingness to trample on their colleagues to get up the greasy pole, or their grasping after things at the expense of relationships, their children and broader society, or indeed their willingness to support criminals in order to boost their own careers!
Recognising that such things exist does not mean that I have to approve of them. My battle is to try not to allow it to twist me - but I still despise it. Fortunately I know many people who have got their priorities properly ordered - at least to my way of thinking!
I found Capote's behavior, as portrayed, disturbing. My sympathies were with the townsfolk he befriended. I had no empathy for Capote as his breakdown was what, in my opinion, he richly deserved; but I did not enjoy the journey as portrayed in the film.
Innocent? I wish, but I am battling to get there.
Bonjour,
It was not actively spelt out because it is, first in the public domain, second, because you could not read...between the line..
TC is like the rest of us, a mix of calcul and generosity.
The balance may tend to one side more that to the other...
But to get where you want to get you have to know the rule of the game, if you are active in this society, but you can live in a better place in you own...maybe..
Capote was egocentric, but show me one artist who is not..
PS: This film has been discussed here, you can make a search..
...but I assure you nothing was consummated. Capote was a gay man without reservations. Did you not pick that up in the film?
as it wasn't explicitely stated I didn't want to assume.
It may be better when one see a film or a book of a personality to check it out on Wikipedia, as an example...
That is a homework...
You might like it more?!
“No teammates, no timeouts, no place to hide”. Who can argue with that?
..
Infamous is a more enjoyable watch and Toby Jones is a better Capote
