Well, nothing like I hoped for. The Natalie Portman character was useless as mitts on a bull. And she still oveacts, always has. The philosophy was so mangled, and the goood guy such a evil person (the hoax he plays on her) this thing wa a mess. Even the visuals of the House of Parliament being blown up were clearly miniatures. A good solid C- because it was in HD.
Follow Ups:
This is a good film if you view it as a political allegory. I liked the speech "V" made at the TV station. This movie actually makes us think about the world we live in...especially the terror attacks...In one way or another, V may be view as a terrorist whereby the Old Bailey was blown up. On the other hand, he is fighting for freedom and reveal Sutler's evil doings. However, for Natalie, i could'nt agree more. I find her acting is not up to snuff in this movie.
Maybe old, but Alan Moore was so disgusted by the script, he refused to let them use his name in the credits or anywhere else. He even refused payment. (He does not own the property, so he could not prevent the movie from being made.) It eventually turned so ugly, Moore cut all ties to Warner. The movie has little relation to Moore's comic book other than name and characters. Moore did not glorify vigilantism.
But the only remarkable thing about this is that Moore refuses to bend over and let people pound away. Philip Pullman isn't happy about how The Golden Compass movie misrepresents his book. But they pay is good, so he's not complaining. And it's always the same cowardly defense: "It's Hollywood." No, it is not. Hollywood is not to blame for your lack of integrity.
...and in this case that is true. I thought V for Vendetta was a very good film.
I really liked this movie. I catch it every time it is on the Satellite. It grows on you.
...being from the Wachowsky brothers I didn't expect much from V4V to begin with.
Children of Men, OTOH, is the real deal on dystopian Britain.
Brace yourselves gents, apparently Portman is Spock's mom in the upcoming J J Abrams Star Trek movie.
either way the trekies are going to blow a dilithium crystal. They are making her a Vulcan.
...but not great. OTOH, maybe she won't have much to do.
I know Vulcans are well preserved and longer lived than humans, but darn, Ryder is young for "mom" roles already.
This upcoming Trek movie could be anytrhing.
Not because of Ryder but because she is a Vulcan. I mean it's Spock. His character is built around being half human. Trekkies will be beyond pissed. Loose your base audience and what do you have? Casual intrest from people who see the franchise as irrelevant. I see a final flop in the Star Trek legacy coming around the corner
He's not happy to be missing from this intsallment. I actually know Bill - we show the same breed of horse and he married someone I know, from my hometown. I see Bill & Liz several times a year and their horses always compete at the show I manage.
It's too early for me to tell about the ST - I feel ambilvalent. I don't have a pulse on the trekies anymore, seems to be a bit of interest from those I talk to. Heck yeah, Spock's my fave character too. If the movie's halfway good, who knows? If they slip up or it's mediocre, knives will be out.
I think I like Firefly better these days anyhoot.
I bought an old re-released film from Roger Corman called "The Intruder" starring Mr. Shatner.(one of his first roles on film) I enjoyed his performance very much, and he's a great guest on the Howard Stern Show.
Baba-Booey to you all!
