I ordered it on Netflix. The reviews span from excellent to poor sound/picture quality.
Boxing: “No teammates, no timeouts, no place to hide”.
Follow Ups:
It looks wonderful on my display, which is a small 34" widescreen CRT/HDT.
Is this performance quality universally characteristic of Criterion remasters?
(I have Criterion's "Seven Samurai" DVD set, and am most pleased -- 26" Sharp lcd/dvd.)
Depends on the source, of course, but they take their time and try to obtain the best elements for mastering they can.
Criterions are outshone in a few rare instances by selected imports. But you will then need a region free player that converts PAL> NTSC to take advantage.
You can always check at dvdbeaver.com for comparisons.
But You might not notice on a screen as small as your anyway. I find Criterions are usually a safe bet and the bonus material is superb.
I assume you are referring to the Criterion edition?
Gary Tooze at www.dvdbeaver.com says it looks "fabulous" on his system. See link below. I think it is the definitive standard DVD edition. And we had to wait a long time for it.
I have a copy and it is stunning. The last time through I listened to the commentary and learned a great deal.
